HALF-BREED: CH. 16 - INTROSPECTION

CHAPTER 16: INTROSPECTION

Summary: Autumn starts keeping a diary and recording her thoughts and observations. The Athosians are allowed to leave Atlantis but Weir won't let Autumn go with them. The Lanteans finally capture a live Wraith and Autumn hopes he might be able to help her locate her Commander. But she is not allowed to talk to him.

Autumn had been busy mending one of the Commander's coats all day and let out a relieved sigh now that her task was complete. She didn't mind these sewing tasks he gave her because it gave her a chance to be alone with her thoughts, where he couldn't hear them. When her concentration was focused on something specific, it acted like a mental block against his random intrusions into her mind. He taught her how to prevent "thought trespassing" (as he sometimes called it) just in case another Wraith – or a human with psychic abilities – tried to extract information from her about the Commander or the hive they lived on. The irony that this meant she could also prevent HIM from poking around in her head was not lost on her and she chuckled to herself. His coats, however, were her least favorite article of clothing to mend. The material used to construct them was thick like leather so it took some effort to get the sewing needle into the fabric. And there was A LOT of it. The coats were long, with lots of intricate detailing, so it took a lot longer to fix the coats compared to the other articles of clothing she worked on. But now she was finally finished and ready to return it to its owner.

HALF-BREED: CH. 15- REVELATION

CHAPTER 15: REVELATION

SUMMARY:  Dr. Elizabeth Weir gives Autumn an informal tour of Atlantis.  Autumn confides in Dr. Kate Heightmeyer.

Autumn and Dr. Kate Heightmeyer were nearing the end of their meal in the dining hall when Autumn asked her about Atlantis.

“So how long has the 'expedition' as I heard someone call it, been here it Atlantis? Who are all these people here? Not all of them are military.”

“There is a strong military presence, of course, but there are also many scientists and computer technicians,” answered Kate. “We also have some civilians who have specific knowledge to offer, along with a handful of people that were rescued from their planet when the Wraith attacked it. I believe you have already met one of them – an Athosian named Teyla Emmagan.”

HALF-BREED: CH. 14 - OBSERVATION

CHAPTER 14: OBSERVATION  

SUMMARY: Autumn continues to give her Lantean oppressors a hard time but warms up quickly to the resident therapist.

Autumn was dragged kicking and screaming all the way back to the infirmary while Dr. Beckett followed behind hoping that she would not have to be strapped down – an unpleasant endeavor which seemed a little excessive – just to administer a sedative.

“Let go of me, asshole!” she shouted at Hoder who was still holding her arms behind her back so she couldn't grab anything that could be used as a weapon. “And stop pointing that thing at me!” she screeched at Lt. Ford who still had his gun pointed at her.

“Believe me, I'd rather not have to do this,” Ford stated. “I'm just following orders. It's nothing personal.”

“Of course it's not,” she snarled acerbically. “What am I anyway? Just a dangerous 'Wraith sympathizer.' Oooh!!!! Everyone get out of the way! Here comes the freaky Half-Breed!”

“Half-Breed? What's that?” asked Ford.

“Oh didn't they tell you? My father is a Wraith!” Ford looked astonished. “So I am judged guilty without a trial just for existing!”

Ford noted the caustic tone of her voice and found it mildly entertaining.

HALF-BREED: CH. 13 - "CELEBRATION"

CHAPTER 13: CELEBRATION

Summary:  Autumn is missing her Commander and having a miserable time in Atlantis...but makes a new friend...and more enemies.

The room was dark except for the light of the stars reflecting off the walls and the ceiling. Autumn was in bed on the hive ship, laying on her back with her eyes wide open, feeling restless. The Commander's sister Sally had put a moratorium on his and Autumn's cohabitation after he confessed to her his love for his worshiper.

Yes, some Wraith were capable of having feelings but mostly, for them as a race struggling to survive, love was the weakest of human emotions and their leaders needed to be strong and disciplined in both mind and body. Their very survival depended on it so they could not afford to feel any empathy towards their human cattle. They were a source of food and nothing more. The few who were allowed to live were basically slaves that did whatever they were told to do even if it went against everything they believed in. If they refused, they were fed upon then discarded like leftovers.

HALF-BREED: CH. 12 - "ARRIVAL"

Summary: Autumn is not happy to be in Atlantis.

Autumn woke up with a throbbing headache and blinked, her eyes trying to adjust to the bright lights of the room she was in.

“Ah, sleeping beauty awakes,” observed Carson Beckett.

“Where am I?” asked Autumn.

“You are in Atlantis, in the infirmary,” Beckett replied. “You assaulted a military officer so he rendered you unconscious.”

“My head hurts. Why am I here?”

Beckett walked over to a cabinet and took out a small container and a bottle of water, then went over to Autumn and stood next to the bed she was in.

“Here is something to help you with the pain,” he stated, opening the container and taking out one of the pills before giving her the water. “Other than your headache, how are you feeling?

Autumn looked at the pill in her hand.

“How do I know you are not trying to poison me?”

HALF-BREED: CH. 11 - "ACCEPTANCE"

Summary: Autumn accepts her fate – and her new role as the Hive Commander's personal worshiper.

The extra time the Commander promised didn't seem to be enough time as far as Autumn was concerned. He ordered a guard to walk her around the hive for about an hour a day and then allowed her several food breaks spaced out every few hours, to eat a plate full of small portions of fruit, bread and cheese, and he insisted she drink as much water as possible. This became her daily routine. 

HALF-BREED: CH. 10 - "DISCIPLINE"

Summary: Autumn learns what daily life with her Wraith Commander is going to be like.

The sun was shining and there was a gentle breeze flowing through the trees, flowers and plants. She was in the field at the forest's edge, behind the tented hut she and her mother called home on P3X-774, the Nox home world. Lorelei was sitting Indian-style, on her calves, plucking bright purple clusters of flowery buds from the plants and dropping them into the basket next to her. The scent of lavender wafted through the air. Autumn was up on a tree branch, picking apples and dropping them into a bucket on the ground below her.

“Careful daughter,” her mother called out to her. “Don't fall and hurt yourself! And you shouldn't be throwing the apples from so high up. They will bruise!”
